TextGrabber scan and translate App Reviews

Great OCR app

Very simple to use, it’s accurate about 95% of the time (has some trouble with smaller text). I love this app. Highly recommended.

Amazing!

I bought this app last summer when I had to combine an entire batch of "printed" patent decisions with a legal team to see how things had evolved. I was stumped at having to consider typing this out manually and then found this app. What can I say! Its saved me a hell of an amount of time and while some editing was required as no OCR technology is 100% perfect yet, this came through with flying colours. For whatever complaints others may have, this app rocks as it delivered far more than I was expecting at the time. This is quite an innovative idea. If you need a solution to do something quick and with almost complete accuracy, look no further.

Perfect !

It make the job very well with photos, but the possibility to read a PDF would be even more convenient.

Dont waste your money on it!

Terrible apps!Translater never works!

One of the best combined Scan & OCR app for me, so far!

As of today, I have tried several app with a purpose of scanning in order to recognize text. This one is one of the best I have found so far. It even allows me to get a basic translation (which must be reviewed and edited, but which nonetheless facilitates my task) in French of text recognized in English! Gabriel T.

Very cool

Love it. The best tool to copy any text source. From screen shot to typed document in 30 sec or less. Of course, plagiarism is bad and this tool should never be used for evil or illegal purposes.

Remarkably accurate

I was very surprised. It is remarkably accurate. It is important to capture a good image to get the accuracy, but it is not that difficult to do.

Translation needs work

App boasts its ability to translate words on a photo, However it needs more work as it cant even translate the simplest Chinese words on both traditional and simplified.

Lol

Why is this the free app of the week? Its horrible and overpriced (its not actually free either, it has badly priced in-app purchases.) stick to google translate app.

Not recommended

This app requires another fee (IAP) to enable active translate. Not recommended. Use Google Translate instead. Its free and much more reliable than this app.

This is bogus

I tried several japanese things and it wouldnt recognize pretty much all of it and it was total garbage when it did translate things. Plus it wants you to pay to use it for more than one day? Just dont even bother its all crap.

Please add vertical reading for asian characters.

Saw this app in the App Store this morning and I had to download it. Ive used OCR software in the past, but I had hoped that my experience with this app would be better... So first, I tried scanning a page out of a novel I had on hand. Although there were a lot of "? ^ I?" stuck it hazardously in the text, this OCR did manage to read nine out of ten words, which really wasnt too bad. For simple, digitalizing english print functions, I would give it 3, 3.5 stars. The real problem started when I tried to read a manga using TextGrabber. Which was my main goal when I downloaded this. It would be much more convenient if I could use this to scan and translate text without having to look up individual kanji using the furigana. Except it didnt work. "Unable to recognize the image." I tried again. And again. I made sure that I cropped the image so only the text was there. Nada. Also, I noticed that there isnt a vertical reading option for languages where vertical text is normal. Most manga use vertical text bubbles at least once in a few panels, so that makes TextGrabber that much more useless to me (if, you know, it could properly scan Japanese in the first place). This is a definite strike against this app, as the more advanced phone OCR apps implement this option. (East Asian scripts read up to down, and then moves right to left between columns, so please take that into account for the vertical reading option.) Adding a translation option to the standard OCR was a good idea. This app does have a lot of potential, and I look forward to improvement in future updates. But as it functions now, two stars is an accurate rating.

Its okay.

Its okay. The book page I tried it on was about 85% accurate. The beginning and ending of the page was symbols and most of the main page was correct. Commas instead of periods and capital letters in the middle of sentences were some of the errors I saw. Ill keep this for a while.

Very bad

Doesnt worth downloading, even free version

Good start

The premise is great but I dont think its refined enough to handle Asian languages yet. Japanese and Chinese (traditional and simplified) specifically: very unreliable and it had difficulty catching horizontal and vertical text. Hope future updates find improvement in these languages!

?????

I tested it out on a SINGLE WORD ( not paragraphs and sentences like they show ) and it turned into a bunch of lines and dashes similar to this " | ° •-|" I tried it on multiple words and it still showed that. I was translating it from English to English.

Works like a charm.

The most useful app on my phone. I simply dont type any longer when coping any document.

Works very well

As advertized. Great in French too
