This app saved me a ton of time copying a printed document into a online document!! It only made a couple mistakes. I highly recommend this app if you want to save time!!

This is a great tool for quickly and efficiently compiling information from faxes and other printed reports into our digital program. My only complaint is that text wrapping is an issue - the end of the line of scanned text is perceived as a new line in the converted text, requiring some editing. However, this is a minor inconvenience, far outweighed by the benefits of this tool. I would recommend this app to others.

I have went through and wasted money for other apps because I hate to type. I needed to down size my cookbook collection. Finally I can take a picture of a recipe , high lite , copy , cut and paste to my favorite recipe app !! Thank you ! !

This was an awesome non-in-app purchase app. Unfortunately Abby has chosen to ride on the success of the app and as a result made the app a complete disappointment. The app clearly stated and still states that it is a TextGrabber and translator... However since a recent update the apps ability to translate has been disabled, for Abby to generate additional income. Now an in-app purchase of $1.99 is required to translate documents despite same being included in the initial app purchase. It is probably a good approach if you are of the view that a customer wont even notice and want to take advantage thereof... NOT! I seems a notice does in fact pop up had you purchase the app until July 2015, which has been the case with me, confirming that you can simply restore the purchase to enable translation of all languages. Once I do this it is stated that there is nothing to restore. Hence money makes the world go round, it does not state whether you are entitled or deserve said money! This is pathetic and need to be addressed by Abby! Until then I will no longer support Abby apps!

So helpful. I love it! Im able to read instructions, mail and so many things that I am grateful for. This app is wonderful and helps me to read things that I am not able to see thank you so much.

Pretty good OCR. I wish you it had an option to open in maps as that is what I used the OCR for. But I was able to copy to Maps app easily.

It isnt good to deceive! I have bought this App as the text scanner with a translation function! A purchase has been made till July 15, 2015. Now, after updating, the App doesnt translate the text and asks $3,99 for this function. Attempts "to restore purchases" dont lead to anything. The App gives the message on what couldnt be restored! If it is an updating error, then eliminate it quicker!!! If it is not a mistake, then I will demand a refund!!!!

Id would usually tell the developer directly but their site wanted me to register an account. Not sure why this update is in the Russian language but not going to update.

I dont have time for a detailed review now but I definitely wanted to update my old rating to reflect the fact that this program has gotten dramatically better over the last couple years. While I wish it had automatic document selection from an image, at least optionally, it does a much, much better job of recognition than it did early on. With a good image of clean text, I would even say it is fairly reliable. The difference from the old versions is night and day. Nice program. Recommended now. Good job, AABBY! Old review from late 2011: I must join the chorus of low reviews, sadly. This is only a good program if youre looking for a few words here and there from the text that you photograph--if youre thinking this is like a document scanner for your phone, think again--think very, very hard. My ScanSnap S1500 with Abbyy Finereader gets nearly 100% recognition--this software using the iPhone camera--how shall I put it positively--does much, much better than chance, generally. If 60% or 70% recognition is okay for you, then this will be a great program. Or if you can set things up like a photo studio, with perfect lighting, angles, and simple, clean text and fonts, the recognition can be higher. BUT IF YOU NEED ACCURACY ON THE GO, FORGET IT. It would be much faster to take a photo, store it in Evernote or the camera roll, and then transcribe the text manually later, at your convenience. In my limited trials, on things like receipts, and trying to be very still and careful taking pictures with my iPhone 4S, the results have been almost worthless: useful if one wants some of the text and dont mind tons of errors, useless if one wanted to textually capture the actual document. I will be happy to re-rate the product later if updates work better--theres a real need for something like this, and I realize it is a difficult task.

I sometimes need to translate my childs Chinese homework. Text Grabber is by far the best scanner reader, translator, and character input program by far. Big Gs Translate character input recognition? Blech. This program recognizes my input even if I write the the strokes the wrong way, and if I "take too long" on the input. Thank you!

Nah, this App never works right!! Paid $3.99 for "in App purchase" and it still never gets it right the first time ---> and yes I follow all their suggestions for taking the snap of the foreign language. Fix this App!!! Spend the $$$ required to make it useful --/ the first time!

Love this app. Have to clean it up a bit, especially in low light or in the folds of book bindings. But what a great help!

This app simply doesnt work. Dont waste your money

This program is not able to detect any kind of text. It simply does not work. If I could give this app negative stars I would.

The app does a decent job at interpreting forms which Ive challenged it with. It will occasionally miss some part of the language on the form. But fortunately there wasnt any excessive amount that I couldnt correct by hand. Which brings up the second point in that it lets me make corrections before transferring it out.

This app is going to save me a lot of time doing schoolwork. Worth the $5...I was having issues at first, but make sure you use the flash option if it is dark in your area. It has a hard time reading text if you are in a dim lit room. After I used flash its like 97% on point!

Very fast and easy to use. Quite accurate OCR in general - better for shorter selections of text than for longer ones.

Textgrabber is great if you are using the camera. If you are trying to scan a photo from your photo library it is a mess.
